THE Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Bavaria in Germany Prof Heinrich Bedford-Strohm has thanked the overseas missionary doctors and nurses who have been serving in rural parts of PNG.
He travelled to Finschhafen yesterday to begin his week-long visit to the Lutheran-run rural health facilities and seminaries around the country.
He was accompanied by Morobe Governor Ginson Saonu and ELCPNG Bishop Jack Urame.
“Sometimes the missionary doctors have a hard job because they are only a few, and there are so many people needing help,” Bedford-Strohm said at Braun Hospital.
“I think they are the hands of God when they serve the people, and I want to thank you for the services provided every day.”
Bedford-Strohm was accompanied by the director of Mission OneWorld Rev Hanns Hoerschelmann and its secretary for PNG, Pacific, East Asia Rev Dr Traugott Farnbacher.
Urame said the missionary doctors had left their lives in their country and came to serve people in the rural communities.
Urame urged surrounding communities and villages next to the church to take care of the missionaries.
Bishop Bedford-Strohm and the delegates will be flying to Etep Rural Hospital in Tewai-Siassi tomorrow before flying to Madang.
