Bishop’s stand against prayer warriors wrong

Letters

THE call by the head of Evangelical Lutheran Church of PNG Bishop Jack Urame for Christians to reject the work of the prayer warriors as they are not gods with supernatural powers but to use Christian prayer as a magical formula indicates a shallow and immature Christian stand.
There are powerfully gifted prayer warriors within the Lutheran church that do incredible work to help Christians in their struggle against evil spirits and really appreciate their work as prayer warriors.
They are specially gifted Christian believers who use their gift to build the church of God and the body of Christ.
For the bishop to say that Christians should reject them is a blind man’s call that has no biblical basis and church’s endorsement or authority.
It appears the good bishop does not know his church and flock.

  • Gary, I think there is nothing wrong with forming of prayer groups but where the Bishop is coming from is about being respond prayer warriors. This is because the prayer warrior first of all a Christian, and Christians must have a Christ-like character. people with Christ-like character will love their neighbors no matter who they are and will not cause disharmony and animosity within the community.
The Bishop was commenting on the incident that happened where the prayer warriors had identified someone as the cause of the death of another and the relatives and the community attacked this person. So the prayer warriors role in this has created more problem for the community than contributing to the solution. Such actions raises questions as to whether these group were genuine prayer warriors or some counterfeit.
