THE Black Orchids Sevens organisers for this weekend in Arawa, Bougainville, were all smiles with a K20,000 sponsorship backing from South Pacific Brewery.
SP Brewery’s corporate relations manager John Nilkare Jr said the brewery was happy to be part of the development of sports in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.
“The Black Orchid 7s is a strong brand built over time by some very passionate and dedicated rugby union enthusiasts,” Nilkare said.
“It’s also encouraging to see it gain momentum over the years with the advent of a host of new sponsors endorsing the tournament.
“We’re happy to play a part in promoting sports in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville and look to seeing exciting new talents being discovered through this rugby union platform.”
Nilkare said the sponsorship was under their ‘Keep Your Cool, Don’t Drink like a Fool’ campaign which acknowledges the importance of responsible consumption of alcohol.
Tournament director Paul Joseph thanked SP Brewery for their continued contributions to sports in Papua New Guinea and for being part of a growing family of supporters towards this tournament.
“Through this sponsorship, we are excited to be part of SP Brewery’s corporate social responsibility by bringing awareness to the importance of drinking responsibly,” Joseph said.
This is the 11th year for the Black Orchids tournament and had come a long way from its humble beginnings. The two-day tournament will be held from July 2-3 in Arawa.
