PNG Power Limited acting managing director Carolyn Blacklock has called on the beneficiaries of a K3 billion rural electrification programme to support it and not demand compensation. She was among the delegation led by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and the representatives of the four nations – Australia, New Zealand, United States and Japan – funding the programme who were in Okapa, Eastern Highlands for its launching.
She said it would benefit six million people by 2030.
Blacklock told the people not to demand for compensation for the damage to the environment caused by the development “as they are the lucky ones”. “If not, electricity will not reach many people,” he said.
Blacklock thanked Okapa MP Saki Soloma for allowing the project trial in his district.
Soloma thanked O’Neill for selecting Okapa as a pilot district.
