Blackouts becoming a ‘norm’ in Hagen

National, Normal

SOME parts of Mt Hagen city in Western Highlands province, have been experiencing continuous power blackouts at least two days a week this year.
Moge tribe leader Joseph Tiki, who lives along the Wela-Kuta section of the road just outside the city, said yesterday many people living this section of the road were affected.
“We have paid the bills. We don’t know why there are continuous power blackouts,” he said.
Mr Tiki said many people had electrical appliances in their homes for cooking, laundry, frozen food, and electrical appliances (mainly television).
“Some people could not even store frozen food in the freezer because they are scared that it might go bad.
“It is a frustrating problem.
“PNG Power must detect the problem and rectify it quickly,” he said.
