MORESBY South Blacks recorded the biggest Southern Super League win with a 50-18 defeat of visiting Rigo Raiders in round four of the inaugural season on Saturday.
Blacks posted nine tries with leading try-scorer Junior Hoki, Andy Tand and Terence Wemin all crossing over for doubles at Moresby South Stadium.
But they were given a fright in the first half with Rigo managing to stay in the contest with two converted tries each scored by either side for a 12-12 stalemate at halftime.
A more enterprising attack from Blacks saw tries go to Jerry Lo and Johnny Ephraim with teammate Jay Winnie adding the extras for a handy 24-12 lead. Rigo responded with their only second-half try through John Joby as Blacks took control of the game with Wemin, Hoki, Tand and fullback Michael Yanis crossing over for another five four-pointers.
It was the experience of Blacks that helped them dominate the visitors in front of a good home crowd.
The Moresby South Rugby League side now climb to second spot, taking over from Central Dabaris, who have slipped to third.
Meanwhile, the Dabaris continued their impressive start to the season with a 22-14 victory against Eda Bulldogs while Port Moresby Vipers Academy maintained their perfect start to the campaign.
