Blaming freeway not the answer

Letters, Normal

I would like to express my sympathy to Andrew Kumbakor for the loss of his son.
Blaming the freeway is not the answer.
Everybody blames the road when an accident happens but it is people who use the road who should bear responsibility.
Yes, every road has some glitches in the designs, whether a sharp curve or a steep slope.
But we, motorists and pedestrians, need to shoulder the responsibility of safety for ourselves and those around us.
Perhaps Kumbakor should ask his elder son whether he was speeding.
I have lost count of the number of times I have seen huge trucks speeding down the freeway and take the corners like they were sedans.
Despite the accidents, these drivers still continue to drive at breakneck speed.
Motorists have all the controls built into the vehicles.
There is a speedometer in the car to see how fast you are going and there are brakes and gears.
Use them wisely and you can avoid accidents and loss of lives.
As an MP, Kumbakor’s comments about speed humps are ridiculous.
If speed humps were built, it cannot be a freeway.
