Blue Kumuls defeat Mt Hagen, Kagua Erave edge Angra

THE Blue Kumuls edged Mt Hagen 2–0 in their round-two opener in the Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League Highlands Conference at the National Sports Institute in Goroka on Saturday.
The game between Aporro Mai and Enga Laima was cancelled after both sides were unable to travel to the institute.
The other clash saw Kagua Erave maintaining their lead in the conference, with a 4-3 win over Simbu Angra.
Kagua Erave remain unbeaten after six games, with their latest victory making it two from two against Simbu Angra.
Their first encounter in round one saw Kagua Erave thrash Simbu Angra 6–2. On Saturday, Blue Kumuls skipper Andrew Apo led by example, scoring the opening goal in the 31st minute following a handball in the penalty area.
The Blue Kumuls scored their second goal when Apo laid on a pass to Nelson Sam who found Hanson Upaiga to score in the 74th minute.
Apo, who is also the coach, said it was their third win so far.
“We had many chances but failed to find the net. We dominated the game,” he said.
“We met once and they defeated us 3-0 but this time, we were better in the areas they had lacked.”
Enga Laima and Aporro Mai will play their match on Wednesday.
