THE Bisley New South Wales Blues had the last laugh against the SP Queensland Maroons beating them 40-36 in the Ela Motors Legends of League match at the Lloyd Robson Oval in Port Moresby on Saturday.
Fans and supporters of rugby league had the chance of seeing live their favorite and former NRL and Origin stars.
PNG legend Marcus Bai, now based on the Gold Coast, showed the crowd he still knew the way to the try line scoring in the double to the delight of the crowd.
The event was well-managed with the players arriving last week leading to a successful auction and dinner held at the Dynasty Restaurant at the Vision City Mall last Thursday.
To build up the exhibition match after arriving last Wednesday, the players were taken to the Port Moresby Golf Course to tee off in a round of golf where players, sponsors and some fans had the chance to get to know the players .
PNG NRL Bid chief executive officer, Brad Tassell said this was a first of its kind rugby league promotional event and was a sign off things to come.
Tassell reiterated that PNG (Port Moresby) was capable of hosting NRL pre-season games provided a world class stadium was built.
“PNG needs a world standard stadium in order to host international sporting events.
“It’s not only for rugby league alone but it can be used also for other sporting events,” Tassell said.
Talks of a possible stadium to be built in preparations for the 2015 South Pacific Games nothing has been progressing.
The League Legends leave for Australia today.
“It was an exciting trip and good to come up here and play.
“The people here are great and hopefully we’ll come back and play,” Blues center Scott Hill said.
