CRICKET Papua New Guinea Board 11 yesterday claimed the Isuzu Barras Bash tournament after an inspiring performance from bowler Nosaina Pokana in their two-wicket win over Legends.
The tournament grand final saw Board win the toss and opt to field.
Damien Ravu offered a fightback in Legends’ total despite being slotted in the lower order with 25 runs while opener and Barramundis danger man Lega Siaka belted 22 to see them all out for 110 in the final over.
Pokana maintained his hold in the bowling for Board after taking one wicket for 13 runs while Hiri Hiri bagged three for 25 runs.
Board’s run chase went down to the wire with excellent bowling from Legends’ Sese Bau and Charles Amini Jr, forcing Board to lose their strikers early.
The task in chasing down the target would fall onto Pokana (23 runs) and Bobby Diho (18 not out).
Diho came out on top with a four from the final ball of the innings with only two runs needed to win with Board winning by two wickets (eight for 113 runs).
The man of the match went to Pokana after bagging one wicket from four overs along with an important 23 runs in Board’s run chase.
“It was a tough game but we managed to come out on top and I’m really happy,” Board skipper Assad Vala said.
