Board settle scores with Legends in cricket bash

HONOURS were shared in the Isuzu Barramundis Bash cricket tournament at Port Moresby’s Amini Park yesterday with Legends getting the points in the first game and then Board 11 exacting revenge in a very tight game in the afternoon.
After winning the toss in the early game, the Legends elected to bat with Simon Atai moving up the order to open with Tony Ura.
After a solid opening partnership of 39, both batsmen fell to Hiri Hiri, Atai for 22 and Ura on 11. Charles Amini Jr (20), Siaka (10) and Ravu 15 not-out got starts.
But the other batsmen didn’t trouble the scorers too much with the Legends finishing on what seemed an under-par score of 7/127.
Gaudi Toka was excellent with the ball, taking 4/18 (4). With Hiri, they accounted for the opening six wickets. Diho bowled Jack Vare for the other.
Board got off to a quick start with Toka dominating the opening bowlers to bag 46 (32) runs in an opening partnership of 54, hitting six fours and two sixes.
He was threatening to end the game quite early before Michael Charlie struck. The Legends bowlers then took control, in particular Amini, who took 4/25, and Sese Bau (2/21) as the Board batsmen struggled to get going.
They were eventually bowled out in the 17th over for 105 in what turned out to be a surprise 22-run win for the Legends.
The second game was a more high-scoring affair that went down to the last over.
The Isuzu T20 Bash continues on Friday with the Lewas playing in the morning and the Barras in the afternoon match.
