Board warned against bribes
The National, Wednesday March 26th, 2014
THE recently sworn-in Morobe Lands board members have been urged to do their duty honestly and not to accept bribes.
Former Morobe Governor Luther Wenge yesterday warned the new board members that if they compromised their positions by receiving bribes, they would find themselves in the same boat as the province’s former boards.
“They are just human beings,” Wenge said.
“At one point or another they will be tempted with bribes.
“I warn them to be careful and not to receive bribes because they will be like other land boards before them.”
The new board members are Manau Saki, George Mutirewe, George Rifi, Rev Bakung, Rita Saulei, John Nagandang, Jasper Jema, Philip Maven, Joe Tetang and Yawa Kilimbu.
Wenge, the three-term governor and People First Party strongman said during his term he had witnessed the swearing-in of three boards who served for four years each.
He said bribery was the reason why many pieces of land in the city had been obtained questionably, citing the old Lae Airport land as an example.
