PREMIERSHIP-WINNING SP Hunters halfback Watson Boas says he wants to produce results in his short stint with the team in the upcoming Queensland Intrust Super Cup season.
The Kumuls playmaker is due back in the United Kingdom (UK) in April to complete the final year of his contract with English Betfred League One club, Doncaster, but he has been cleared to play with the Hunters in the opening rounds.
Boas told The National earlier this month that his priority was to win games alongside coach Matthew Church’s men and not just to maintain his fitness.
“The Hunters represent the country and to wear that jersey comes with a lot of responsibility to the fans, sponsors and the country as a whole,” the 26-year-old said.
“I thank Doncaster chief executive Carl Hall, Church and the Hunters board for giving me the opportunity to maintain my fitness with the Hunters while waiting for the UK to ease border restrictions.
“But regardless of the length of my Hunters stint, I will not take it likely.
“I’m not here to pass the time.
“I understands what’s at stake and the responsibility of being a Hunter, so I have to give my best and help produce results.”
Boas said he was looking forward to playing alongside his older brother, Ase, and younger playmakers like Judah Rimbu and Solomon Pokari.
“They have earned their spots and they are quality players,” he said.
“I hope to share my experiences with them and learn some things from them. There are also international players like Edwin Ipape and Wartovo Puara Jr in the team, so we have an abundance of playmakers which is good for our attack.”
Meanwhile, Boas said he would be playing for a new contract with Doncaster.
