THE body of a man was found floating near Voco Point in Lae yesterday by travellers to the city.

They reported it to the Voco Point police station and police, assisted by outboard motor operators, retrieved the body.

Senior Sergeant Brian Panda said there were no visual marks on the body that had a maroon t-shirt and a necklace.

“The body is identified as that of a young man,” he said.

Morobe provincial disaster and emergency personnel had retrieved the body from the sea.

The disaster officials helped the mortuary keepers from the Angau Memorial General Hospital to retrieve the body out of the sea and putting it into a body bag.

The body was taken to the morgue and was kept there.

Relatives, families and friends of the deceased were asked to go and identify him to claim his body for proper burial.

Panda said the police and disaster officials could not establish the cause of the death as there was no marks or signs found on the body of the deceased.

He believed that the man may have drowned while travelling on a dinghy or when out fishing.
