THE half-naked body of a man was discovered in a vehicle parked near the Lae Rugby League oval yesterday morning.
Commuters going to work and school between 7am and 8am flocked the scene on hearing the news.
Police said it was possible that the body had been in the vehicle since Monday.
Lae metropolitan commander Iven Lakatani is away in Madang and could not be reached for comment. But an officer familiar with the case said the man was an employee of the Morobe provincial government.
The officer said details of the case would be released later.
“The vehicle was spotted by sex workers and security guards at the newly constructed BSP bank who notified police,” the officer said.
“Police arrived and found the half-naked body at the back of the 10-seater vehicle.
“The vehicle’s engine and air-con were still on. All the doors of the vehicle were locked except the back.”
Police said the body did not have any visible wounds on it.
Meanwhile, the Lae Chamber of Commerce and Industry has alerted its members of the death.
President Alan McLay told members in an email circulated yesterday that further developments on the death would be relayed to them if information became available.
