BODYBUILDERS in Port Moresby are gearing up for this year’s national bodybuilding titles in Lae on April 16.
Mr PNG Lucas Wemin, who is the titleholder, has his sights on retaining the title this year.
He said the event would also be an opportunity for the bodybuilders to have a crack at the Pacific Games in Noumea, New Caledonia.
He added it would also give them a chance to qualify for the third World Physic Bodybuilding championships in New Caledonia. It will be held after the Pacific Games.
Wemin said that Goroka, under the former PNG Steven Bomal as coach, would be sending a strong team for the national bodybuilding titles.
Wemin took part in the first World Physic Bodybuilding championships in Dubai in 2009 and finished 10th out of a number of participants representing 89 countries.
He has set his sights on having another crack on the world stage and is already training hard for these events.
However, Wemin still needs assistance to allow for better preparations for the upcoming events.
The Port Moresby bodybuilders will be holding live performance during a fundraising event at the Euphoria Club on Feb 26 to raise for their trip.
The team comprises David Mugarenang, Peter Dai, Imbark Waipe and Jack Viufa.
Tickets are going for K10 pre-sold and K15 at the gate. Those interested should contact Wemin on 7609-5539.
All proceeds will go the athletes training, diet and tickets to travel to Lae.
