THE Papua New Guinea Bodybuilding Championships are set for Sept 12-14 in Chimbu.
After the national event, a team will be selected to attend the South Pacific Bodybuilding Championships in Samoa in October.
The team will also attend another tournament in South Korea in December, with athletes looking forward to pushing for selection.
National Capital District Bodybuilding Association president Canny Cooper said the national championships were initially set for this month but was were pushed back to allow more time for affiliates to prepare.
The championships are sponsored by Chimbu Governor Michael Dua to promote the code in the province.
Cooper said after the championships, the PNG Bodybuilding Federation would hold its annual general meeting with the election of new office bearers.
He said the terms of the current executives, headed by president Steve Bomal, had expired this year.
“There should be a mutual understanding between the affiliates to elect executives who are based in Port Moresby so they can attend to national business here,” Cooper said.
He said other sporting organisation had their presidents based in Port Moresby because the PNG Olympic Committee was there and that made it easy to attend meetings and excess information on national programmes and strategic plans.
“Our president Bomal is based in Goroka,” Cooper said.
Cooper said we hosted the 2017/18 championships to assist the national body.
Meanwhile, Cooper says his association is two months into its preparations for the championships.
