Boga, Keama lose bouts
The National, Tuesday July 29th, 2014
TEAM PNG boxer Tom Boga put up a good fight against Andrique Allisop of Seychelles in the men’s 60-kilogram division on Saturday in the 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
Team manager Dick Larry said Boga fought good but Allisop used his experience and height advantage to gain points with his punches and won the bout with a two-point difference.
In the men’s 64kg, Noel Eko lost his fight to Malaysian Khir Akyazlan Azmi and Jonathan Keama was unsuccessful in the men’s 75kg match against Guyana’s Dennis Thomas.
Despite the four losses so far, including a fight on Friday, Larry said the morale in the team was still high and there were another three fighters getting ready for competition.
Papua New Guinea last won a Commonwealth Games medal in Kuala Lumpur in 1998, with Lynch Ipera winning a bronze medal.
