THREE men have been arrested and charged for impersonating police officers and extorting cash from a middle-aged woman and her son on Tuesday at Jackson Airport.
Police media in a statement said that the three suspects (names withheld) were wearing police uniform shirts and were driving a white Toyota double cabin vehicle bearing registration number CAY 689.
Police said the woman (named) and her son from the New Ireland, were leaving Jackson Airport’s domestic terminal for the bus stop when the three stopped them and checked the boxes they were carrying.
The suspects told the woman and her son to get in the car when they discovered that two of their boxes were filled with mustard.
Police allege the suspects then demanded K2000 from the women as they were driven around the city.
Officers Abraham Jerrifia and Ian Gunawi were at police headquarters when they were alerted by the sister of the victim.
“The message was not clear as the woman was in fear and texted only the car plate number and the last location,” Gunawi said.
“We tracked them and finally saw them at Rita Flynn (netball courts) where we intervened and stopped them.”
The three suspects were stripped of the police uniform and charged for impersonating police officers and extortion.
Meanwhile, the Waigani National Court yesterday ruled on a disputed land at Hohola in Port Moresby.
Justice Ere Kariko declared that the plaintiff Jim Keru was the registered proprietor of the property described as allotment 123, section 232, Hohola, NCD, after he considered a copy of the title deed that had been produced in court confirming him as the registered title holder since May 15, 2013.
The defendant in the matter was Aposo Atuo.
Justice Kariko upheld that the sale of the land to Keru was validated by copies of the relevant contract of sale and transfer instrument both dated Feb 18, 2013.
