THE Bomai schoolboys rugby league competition in the Chuave electorate of Chimbu was launched over the weekend.

Local MP and Vice-Minister for Agriculture Mogerema Wei officiated at the launch at Yaweh Moses Secondary School in Chuave and was attended by students, staff and parents of participating schools in the area.

Karaweri in the East-West Elimbari area of Chuave and Doliba High Schools in the Salt-Nomane area of Karimui-Nomane district provided bulk of the Under-15 and U17 players while four primary schools also contributed teams.

Primary Schools participating in the first Schoolboys competition in Bomai area were Fr Richard, Gogo,  Komane and Giriyu primary schools.

Wei commended Timothy Komane Jr and Elijah Tabie for introducing the concept into the area after a visit by PNG Rugby League Foundation chief executive officer Brad Tassell.

A Bomai schoolboys side will be selected to participate in the coming Highlands Zone tournament.

The concept apart from getting the back up from Wei, Chuave MP Wera Mori also made a commitment to support development of the popular sport.
