TWO toddlers living with their incarcerated mothers in prison have been provided food, clothes and beddings by an organisation to make their stay there comfortable.
The PNG Children’s Foundation came to the rescue of the two following a concern raised by Judge Panuel Mogish on the kind of food they were being fed.
He recently visited the prison.
The two are a six-month-old baby and a one-year-old girl.
The foundation yesterday donated food, clothes, bedding, bathing items, utensils and other items for the children.
Foundation project adviser Estrellita “Nene” Santa Cruz said children had special needs and needed special treatment.
“Children have special needs for nourishment, food, clothing and care and these must not be neglected,” Cruz said.
She said it was part of the foundation’s service to the community to help those in need.
Bomana Prison commander Kidi Keko said the donation was important and called on the mothers’ relatives to help them too.
Olivia Warome, the mother of six-month-old boy Kemu Noipa said: “We know our kids have needs but we are helpless because we have to abide by the law, thus we neglect their needs.”
