KAUPA Cup chairman Ben Marme says due some misunderstanding and confusion, the Bomana offseason rugby league competition has will to the other competitions this week.
The Bomana offseason currently has 52 clubs including 40 men and 12 women’s team competing to affiliate with the Kaupa Cup played at Unagi Oval.
Marme said last year the Bomana competition was sponsored by Moresby North West MP John Kaupa and staged its finals but the competition broke away afterward.
“We’ve completed five rounds already but starting next weekend we will rejoin the Kaupa Cup,” Marme said.
Marme welcomed the decision of Bomana offseason organisers to affiliate with them.
“Bomana will now play their sixth round but will have catch up to the Kaupa Cup which is into its eighth round,” Marme said.
The formal launching to rename Bomana Offseason to John Kaupa Cup Bomana Offseason will be next week in Bomana and the MP will be on hand to personally officiate.
“Last year we played in different locations as Bomana held their own field in the police college while Kaupa Cup was played at Unagi Oval in Gordon.”
Marme said Bomana’s Nane Brothers claimed the Kaupa Cup after beating the Desert Stones.
The Kaupa Cup comprises 38 men’s rugby league teams and 20 women’s soccer teams taking part in the competition.
Bomana offseason president Jacob Pikip said there were some misunderstandings and conceptions that led to a split in the competition but they were back together.
He said the Bomana offseason was made up of ward 9 and 12 while Unagi Kaupa Cup had teams from ward 5 and 6 in the North West electorate.
He said this weekend would have wash-out games to draw both competitions in order to start the coming weekend on the same roud.
