FOREST Minister Timothy Bonga has called on all Momase MPs to combine their efforts in putting up a soccer franchise to participate in the National Soccer League challenge.
He made the call yesterday when handing over K2,000 to the champion team of the Momase Federation Cup on the eve of the championships.
The event will start at the Lae Football Association Park today.
The Momase tournament has attracted most associations within the region who are not affiliated to the PNG Football Association.
Most of the teams are rural-based, however, have produced some outstanding performance against fancied teams from the urban areas.
Team Boana, who won the championship in Wau two years ago, are a good example.
The previous winners were  relatively unknown side from Finschhafen who won the title in 2006.
Bonga said he was proud to support rural talents.
Boana team manager Henry Somasi added the support gave some focus and perspective to rural youths.
“The boys from the villages have proven time and again that there is talent in abundance in the villages. The boys from Boana have done it, so players from Finschhafen,” Bonga said.
