Bonga urges NDB to lend more to agro

NAWAEB MP Timothy Bonga has called on the National Development Bank (NDB) to allocate more funds to Morobe province for agriculture development.
Mr Bonga also called on the bank to explain why it had withdrawn the remainder of the K2 million it had allocated for commercial development in the province.
He said he had learnt that, of the K2 million allocated by the bank for poultry development, only K700 had been drawn down – and the rest withdrawn without explanation.
“I call on the board and management of the NDB to explain what has happened to this money,” Mr Bonga said.
He said smallholder poultry growers in Morobe province needed the money to expand their poultry farms so that they could sell more chicken to the chicken producer Tablebirds Limited.
“The bank is good at talking but when it comes to action it is not doing what it preaches.
“Morobe province is a large province that deserves more respect and more money for agriculture development,” Mr Bonga said.
“What the bank has allocated is not enough.”
