Boram inmates protest against law
INMATES at Boram prison in East Sepik are opposing the new judicial conduct law and the decision to defer the election.
They have passed on their petition to the media calling on parliament to:
l Lift the suspension of the two judges (Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia and Justice Nicholas Kirriwom); and
l Reconsider the deferral of the election.
Spokesman for the inmates Tony Emmanuel said they were citizens of East Sepik province and PNG and had the right to express their views.
He said they believed the media could help make public their concern and views to the country’s leaders.
“We want the parliament to repeal the Judiciary Conduct Act that was passed on March 28,” Emmanuel said.
Their immediate concern however is what will happen to their pending cases recently heard by Justice Kirriwom who was assigned to conduct the National Court rounds in Wewak.
The Boram prison camp holds 181 prisoners.
