Border admin sitting idle

The recently completed PNG-Indonesian border administration complex in West Sepik is not being used.
Former Wutung-Bewani LLG president Patrick Muliale said the complex has been sitting idle since completion late last year.
“Grass is now growing everywhere around the complex. Soon the bushes will cover the complex. This complex cost the Asian Development Bank K90 million and is now an eyesore,” he said.
“The Government’s implementing agency – Border Development Authority – promised the Wutung Women’s Group that it would give the group K100,000 to clean around the complex. That was four months ago and nothing has been done.”
Muliale said the site of the complex reflected the incompetency of the BDA management to manage multi-million kina donor-funded projects .
“Not only has there been no funding allocated to the women’s group to clean the complex but the social component of the project that covers water supply, sanitation and electrification has not been completed .
“We are now strongly calling on the Government to investigate the funds allocated for BDA to manage this project. We want to know how the office complex and the border agency officers’ housing project were completed while the social component has not been.
“Border complex, border agency officers’ housing and the social projects for the villagers are all in the same funding of K90m by ADB and Government for Wutung pilot border trade and investment project.”
