Borehole for water supplies identified

Main Stories

A RECENT geophysical survey by the Mineral Resources Authority (MRA) has identified Water PNG borehole drilling sites for stations in Lufa, Eastern Highlands, plus Chuave and Kerowagi in Chimbu.
The MRA was engaged by Water PNG to conduct the survey last November to assess the availability of groundwater around the stations.
The report was completed last month.
The survey was to establish water sources for the stations so that water could be supplied to residents.
MRA’s geophysicist Janice Klink, who conducted the survey, said through the correlation of geophysical data to surface geology, prospective bore drilling sites were identified.
It was therefore recommended to Water PNG that the three stations had sufficient water sources to develop water supply systems.
Water PNG was tasked by the Government to extend water and sanitation to all districts and towns.
MRA managing director Jerry Garry said apart from regulating the mining industry, they also provided engineering and geo-scientific advice to government agencies, community-based organisations and rural people engaged in sustainable projects.
