FIFTEEN-year-old Vanita Borkents claimed the dux award for Usino Primary School and topped Usino-Bundi in Madang.
She was awarded a medal by the school during her graduation last Wednesday.
Borkents scored distinctions in English, mathematics, science, social science, making a living and personal development to become the overall dux for the year.
She came second in the province.
Usino-Bundi programme manager Jeffrey Lemeck congratulated Borkents on her achievements and for raising the level of education in the district.
“It is a great honour to have a student from the district setting a new record with high academic results for the first time,” Lemek said.
“The same student came second in the province in her academic achievements.” Lemek commended Borkents for her achievements and encouraged her to continue to work hard and do well in her studies.
Borkents will continue to grade nine at the St Michael Secondary School at Brahman in the district.
Madang Puma Gas branch manager Max Tika presented Borkents with a gas cylinder and stove as her dux award.
Meanwhile, Lemek said a new technical secondary school would be built in Usino-Bundi next year.
