WHEN opened, the proposed Central market at Boroko will be an avenue that will reflect the true values of the people of the province, Central Governor Kila Haoda says.

Haoda said he had written to National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop to develop the market.

He said the conceptual designs for the market had been finalised and a proposal would be submitted to the NCDC board for recommendation.

“The market is part of our priority areas and we want to assure that work will soon commence on this project,” he said.

“The market will feature a very different concept from all the markets across the country and will be purely Central style.”

When the proposed market was first handed to the Central provincial government, work on fencing and other infrastructural maintenance were carried out followed by a launching.

However, the market has not been operational and has become an eyesore because of its transformation into a haven for squatters in the capital city.

Haoda said his team was working hard to get the project off the ground and he was content with the support of Parkop and his management team and the Government.

Haoda confirmed the Central city was still in its planning stages and thanked the Government for their commitment towards the project.

He said as chairman of the Central City steering committee he was adamant a market would soon be erected after an 18-year wait.
