THE National Capital District Commission is exploring the possibility of Boroko police using the aborted Casino at 4-Mile in Port Moresby among other initiatives city hall could do to help law enforcement.
City manager Bernard Kipit told attendants at the NCD Law and Order Summit in Port Moresby yesterday that the commission was exploring the possibility of Boroko police shifting to the location and a law and order committee set up.
Kipit said they would also support any logistics requirements that Police needed to discharge their duties.
“We have also assisted police with the building of the police stations at Badili, Saraga and Koki, and we are now currently working on building one in Erima and Kippo.
“We also provide transport logistics and meet their vehicle needs, provide housing (Tasion Barracks) and did the Bomana electricity connection,” he said.
Kipit said city hall had installed 960 street lights last year and would install more this year.
“We are also working on sealing all the feeder roads and have CCTV coverage at all traffic lights and at key public facilities such as Gordon Market, 6-Mile small and medium enterprises area and other intersections.”
Kipit said the commission would hand over the operation of the CCTV cameras to the police.
He said the commission had 90 reserve police officers who were deployed to help city hall in its programmes around the city.
Kipit said that the National Capital District Commission was working with police to address law and order issues.
