SEVENTEEN year-old Elaine Daviona, pictured, was introduced to rugby only four months ago.
After showing an aptitude for sevens she could realise her dream of one day wearing the national Palais colours.
The Central Bougainville lass was introduced to the sport by Wade Secondary School PE teacher Cedric Parum.
Daviona was part of the Autonomous Region of Bougainville’s Under-19 team at last weekend’s national provincial women’s championships in Port Moresby.
Not only did Daviona impress by earning the best and fairest award, she helped her province to its first women’s title after beating Port Moresby International High School 10-5 in the final.
Daviona and her team-mates also created history being the first AROB women’s team to attend a Papua New Guinea Rugby Football Union-sanctioned tournament.
They also won the U15 title beating POMIS 10-0.
Coach Kelly Havara said the win proved that Bougainville women could play rugby.
