Background: This is Bougainville’s debut season in the Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League.
The franchise are known as Mungkas at the member-association level (Port Moresby Soccer Association).
It all came about when Mungkas felt that they needed to expose their players to a higher level of competition.
Establishing the franchise can also be seen as a pathway for players in Bougainville.
Mungkas are a football club that have been in existence in Port Moresby since the 1970s.
Accomplishments: As a new franchise in the NSL, Bougainville considers entering the NSL as a major accomplishment.
At the member association level, Mungkas have won three consecutive grand finals.
Selection: Most of the franchise players come from Mungkas. Some have been recruited from other clubs and the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.
