THE Autonomous Region of Bougainville Rugby Football Union (AROBRFU) received a whooping boost of K100,000 from the Minister for Sports & 2015 Pacific Games Justin Tkatchenko.

The funding from the Sports Ministry, through the government’s sports enhancement programme, will benefit the people of AROB as they strive to develop the sport in the region.

During AROBRFU’s recent strategic planning workshop, the union identified the need to initiate a youth programme to ensure that the codes positive traits of integrity, passion, solidarity, discipline and respect were embedded into the youths and children at an early age.

The Pacific in Union (PiU) would be the first fully endorsed school programme to be endorsed by Bougainville Education Department chief executive officer Bruno Babato.

PiU’s objectives include promoting positive social development and increase rugby participation across Pacific Island communities, as well as building capacity within national unions and strengthen rugby partnerships across the region.

AROBRFU’s president Peter Tsiamalili Jnr and governor and AROBRFU patron Joe Lera said the funding would be invested into sports teacher’s induction workshops, rugby kits for schools and printing of resource materials for the schools.

Both acknowledged Tkatchenko for the commitment he made towards the youths and children of Bougainville through rugby union.

One of Bougainville rugby  football union’s goals through the programme is to keep producing well balanced rugby players who would continue to contribute to the region and the country and become respected global citizens through the sport.
