Bougainville teachers promised training aid

BOUGAINVILLE Copper Limited (BCL) has confirmed its support for the Autonomous Bougainville Government’s Department of Education.
This came in the provision of standards-based curriculum training for primary school teachers in Arawa during national literacy week, with the theme, “Strengthening the Bougainville eferendum awareness through the voice of the children”.The three-day event saw six primary schools from Kieta district and one from Panguna district participating through demonstrations for their understanding of the upcoming referendum through drama, speeches, debates, songs and traditional dance.
BCL senior project officer for Panguna, Genevieve Itta said: “Literacy is a powerful enabler that helps people to take advantage of opportunity and to live better and more rewarding lives.” She said more than K80,000 would be given to support standard-based curriculum training sessions for more than 380 teachers at Kieta and Panguna this school term.
