Bowling events in Lae, Goroka

LAE and Goroka bowling clubs will be hosting three separate events over the Easter weekend which is expected to attract bowlers from around the country.
The Lae Bowling club, which boasts the best green in the Pacific, is the venue for the men’s national pennants, while women will converge on Goroka for the masters single and open pairs.
The Lae event was confirmed after the assistance of Amalpack, Pacific Foam, Brian Bell and Tablebirds, who have donated prizes for the event.
Lae bowling club secretary Harry Kaisa said organisers had confirmed 11 teams consisting more than 100 players.
Current premiers, Goroka bowling club will be led by PNG singles champion Peter Juni and young Tony Yogiyo to defend their title.
A strong battle is expected from 2008 premiers, Lae, who have a mixed team of experienced and young consistent performers who have caused upsets in recent national events.
Other clubs attending include, Mt Hagen, Defence (Port Moresby), Bulolo, and Madang.
Goroka Bowling Club is currently putting the final touches to its greens which will be used this weekend by other affiliated clubs to the PNG Women’s Bowling Association (PNGWBA) which are Lae, Madang, Bulolo and Mt Hagen.
PNGWBA caretaker executive Hilan Handen said the winners of the masters singles would be endorsed by the association to participate in the World bowls champion of champions next year.
Six selectors will be available to select potential competitors for any international events this year and next year.
All club delegates are asked to meet on Saturday while the selectors will meet on Sunday.
