Boxes of personal protective equipment for Hela

THE Hela health authority (PHA) received boxes of personal protective equipment (PPE) from Justice Service Sector for development (JSS4D) last week, an Australian government-funded programme that works alongside the province’s law and justice sector.
PHA chief executive Dr James Kintwa received the equipment at Tari Hospital and said the presentation was vital to protect people from the new variant of the Covid-19 – the Delta strain – which was more infectious than previous strains.
Dr Kintwa said the JSS4D had played a crucial role in the law and justice sector, focusing on family and sexual violence, community safety, anti-corruption and effective law and justice services.
And it was now supporting the PHA in its fight against the Covid-19.
PHA Covid-19 programme coordinator Rocky Wakinda told The National that the continuous support given by the provincial government through the office of the deputy provincial administrator, Paias Pape, was vital in making sure there was cooperation in addressing the Covid-19 pandemic.
He said JSS4D had also conducted awareness on the African swine fever but was now giving priority to the Covid-19.
Wakinda said Pape had been a key player in supporting the PHA in the past by supporting with fuel, PPEs and other logistics.
“Partnership work is vital in addressing the challenge the PHA is facing in making awareness and getting people vaccinated,” he said.
“Though the provincial Covid-19 committee is not that active, the deputy administrator’s support in negotiating with partners is commendable.” Wakinda said all stakeholders, educated elites, LLG presidents and ward councillors needed to support the work being done so that more people were vaccinated.
