SUPPORTERS Club of Rugby Union Morobe will go into its annual school holiday camp on Boxing Day.
Aimed at a targeted group of 150 participants, this year’s Coca Cola junior rugby holiday programme has been extended to Under 14s and 15s, who are interested in being part of SCRUM’s talent identification programme.
“This camp is usually the final event for the year for SCRUM, and an opportunity for us to identify the next crop of players especially in the 10-15 year group that will become part of our development group for the next couple of years,” SCRUM development officer Robin Tarere said.
“They will become part of our mini rugby academy which commences in 2013,” he said.
“This year’s camp will begin on Dec 26 and end on Dec 29, with three sessions a day for three different age groups.
“The total age group that we are targeting is between six and 15 years, which are the crucial age groups before they eventually make it into the senior competitions.
“This camp is to give participants a fun, interactive and healthy introduction to rugby union. Participants will be taught the basic skills of rugby with fun games at the end of each session to complete their activities.”
Tarere also urged interested parents to register their children for the holiday programme.
“It’s a huge rugby opportunity for the kids while they are on holidays to learn more about the game, and skill themselves before the school competition.”
The four days will run consecutively with the first sessions for age groups six to eight from 8.30am to 9.20am, 9 to 12 years from 9.40am to 11am, and the Under 13 to 15 age group sessions between 11.40am and 1.30pm.
