Boy, 11, to face court over eye injury caused by nail bullet

A BOY, 11, from Ialibu in Southern Highlands, attending Gerehu Primary School, was arrested by police for allegedly injuring a 14-year-old girl in the eye with a U nail at his home on Saturday.
A medical report said the girl’s eye was likely to have a malfunction.
Police said the boy was locked up in a cell the same day for his safety.
He was to be charged and locked up again before appearing in the juvenile court today.
His mother told The National that the back of their house had a big drain where her son and four friends went hunting for birds with their catapults.
She said the girl came, opened their back gate and released the dogs after the boys.
She said her son intended to “shoot” the dogs with the U “bullets” to stop the dogs chasing after them but accidently hit the girl.
“The little girl was provoking the dogs when the dogs started barking and chased after them.
“My son did not mean to hit her with the iron bullet,” the mother said.
Gerehu Police Station commander Hanson Tokally told The National that boy was kept in the cell for his safety.
“He was released on the same day.
“He will be charged and will appear before the juvenile court at Boroko today,” Tokally said.
“The juvenile officers from National Capital District are here to assist and take him to juvenile cell at Boroko and lock him to appear before the court.”
Tokally said the police were waiting for both parties to be at the station so that formalities could be done.

  • He tried to shoot the dogs and accidently targeted the girl’s eye. This is unacceptable because now the victim will be partially blind. The parents of the culprit should liable for meeting all the expenses in sending the victim to the hospital.

  • The mother of the 11 yr old boy’s comment is not acceptable. She should admit that her son is not discipline. How can you shoot at dog and accidentally got girl’s eye?.

  • If I were the mother, I would not come out on the stage and defend the action of my undisciplined son. Dear woman, you are saying that your son had a reason to make the girl blind. Say something better than what you said and put the fire off.
