POLICE have arrested a 13-year-old boy and two others after marijuana was found in baggage destined for Port Moresby being checked in at Goroka airport.
Airport authorities alerted police and the three, who were also boarding the flight, were arrested.
The discovery was made while the baggage was being put through the airport’s new scanning machine.
The 13-year-old was a grade 3 student at Kintunu Primary School.
He was in the company of Ofi Keke, 20, of Kintunu village, and Nathan Kufe, 25, who have all been charged.
Airport authorities said the 15 kilograms of dried marijuana were destined for Port Moresby.
National Airports Corporation employees alerted the Goroka Police Task Force who arrested the three and took them to Goroka police station.
Eastern Highlands provincial police commander Superintendent David Seine Jnr had warned people smuggling drugs from Goroka to Port Moresby to stop because they faced severe penalties.
He said marijuana destroyed people’s health and should not be consumed.
The three are expected to appear in court this week.
