Leonard Mang, from Yamanumbu in East Sepik, started design and screen printing business while being a student at Brandi Secondary School outside Wewak.

Mang, 23, said he was inspired by his older siblings to do business but in printing industry.

His artistic skill brought him to Port Moresby Technical College where he successfully graduated with a Diploma in Printing and Graphics last year.

Mang said while attending Port Moresby Technical College, he had been doing prints on shirts and caps for his aunt to sell at the Tabari Craft Market.

“The caps were selling at K40 while T- shirts were going for K20, Mang told The National.

“I usually earn K600 to K800 per week and everyday I make approximately K200.” He banks a portion of what he earns and gives his tithes and offerings to his church and uses the remainder to sustain himself and assist boys from his village who visit him in the city.

Mang said what he had learnt from Port Moresby Technical College increased his manual ability and he can now do things with computer software with a lot more confidence in himself.

“In my two years of schooling at Pomtech, I learnt about how to draw using different software, like Illustrator, Photoshop and Indesign,” he said

“Now that I’m still searching for a job, I sit here (Tabari Craft Market) everyday selling my things.”

He said he would like to work for three years to gain experience and expand his business. He also, sells  bilums, baskets and printed bags
