THE Bank of Papua New Guinea (BPNG) has launched a series of new- look polymer banknotes with special over-print design to commemorate the 35th anniversary of Papua New Guinea independence.
Launched on Wednesday, the new-look bank notes ranged from K2 to K100 contained advanced security features to help protect the currency from being counterfeited.
BPNG Governor Loi Bakani said the polymer notes would retain many of the original design elements of the previous bank notes.
He said there has been reportedly in circulation of fake paper bank notes and the polymer notes would  help avoid counterfeit ones.
Bakani said by next year, the bank would vigorously make awareness throughout the country in educating the people on the features and how they would avoid and identify counterfeits from genuine bank notes.
