SOUTH Pacific Brewery employees are the first corporate group to check their status on the common roll.
This follows a visit to the brewery by officers from the Electoral Commission last Thursday.
A statement from SP Brewery said because of work commitments, the company decided to invite the Electoral Commission to its head office in Gordon, National Capital District, so its employees could check if they were on the common roll and if they were not, they could register to vote in the June general election.
“As an employer the company has an obligation to ensure that all employees and their families are properly enlisted on the electoral roll to take part in electing their leaders,” it said.
The exercise was carried out on Thursday, with more than 100 employees either enlisting or checking their status.
The company said it might consider doing the same for its other bureaus in the country.
“SP Brewery believes it is important that all eligible voters must vote in the national election because they have the right to.
“This year’s election is an important one and therefore everyone must participate to rightfully elect their political leaders,” the company statement said.
SP Brewery thanked the electoral commission and urged all corporate organisations to do the same by giving their employees the opportunity to register or update their status for the June election.
