Brewer sponsors new show with K10,000

ORGANISERS received K10,000 from SP Brewery for the first Geru Peng Festival in Jiwaka on Friday and Saturday.
The head dress festival is being is organised by Meere Taka Community Development and supported by the Jiwaka government under the leadership of Governor Dr William Tongamp.
It will be held at Wara Karl, outside Banz town.
Stanley Kos, from the provincial tourism office, said the festival was to promote the different head dresses of the Jiwaka people.
Kos said it was a show where different cultural activities would be performed.
He said the event was recognised by the National Cultural Commission and Tourism Promotion Authority and would become an annual event.
Many traditional singsing groups in the province would take part, Kos said.
Kos said the Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Emil Tamur would attend along with Jiwaka MPs and eight council presidents in the province.
“We want to make this two-day event bigger and better,” he said.
Kos thanked SP Brewery for being the first business house to support the festival.
Sales representative for SP Brewery in Jiwaka and Enga Ben Wickham said the company under its South Pacific Lager brand campaign, “Best of PNG” was proud to support the event.
