Brewery backs league
The National, Friday March 28th, 2014
LONG-TIME backers of sports in Papua New Guinea, the South Pacific Brewery continued their faith in rugby league with their backing of K200,000 as minor sponsors of the Digicel Cup.
This is the third consecutive year, PNG’s leading brewer has backed Digicel PNG in supporting the endeavors of the premier competition in the country.
During the official presentation of the sponsorship yesterday, SP Lager’s managing Stan Joyce took the opportunity to remind patrons that their company has been supporting the code since 1951, and will continue to do so.
SP Lager, a former naming rights sponsor handed the baton to Be-Mobile in 2009, before Digicel PNG took over.
Joyce said: “Sports unites people and we see the importance in playing our part in supporting and strengthening the platforms to promote the most popular sport in PNG.”
Digicel PNG CEO John Mangos chimed in to say that they value the support from SP as they wouldn’t be able to bring game down to the grass-roots level with their level of support.
He further confirmed all systems are go for the intended launch on April 10 and season kick-off on April 13.
