Brian Bell executive commends redevelopment of Homecentre

WORK on redeveloping Brian Bell Group’s Homecentre in Gordon, Port Moresby began earlier this year, chief executive officer Cameron Mackellar says.
Mackellar said the development would be far more than just a Brian Bell Homecentre, with an opportunity for many other quality retail operations to establish a new presence within a brand new shopping precinct in Port Moresby.
“This initiative will create a new destination shopping plaza with lots of retail choices for families as well as a brand new café established for everyone to enjoy a relaxing meal, breakfast and lunch every day of the week.”
Mackellar said it was a significant investment for them but they felt it was the right thing to do now for years to come.
“As Port Moresby continues to expand, so does our business and this will become an even stronger destination shopping plaza for all of Port Moresby to enjoy,” he said.
“We are ambitious about wanting to provide a better shopping experience to our customers and this development allows us to achieve that.
“It’s certainly a significant investment but also a part of a long term capital plan for the rest of our group.”
Mackellar said work was expected to be completed by early next year. “Timing is important but a quality product is more important to us and we don’t want to cut any corners despite having an aggressive timeline in place,” he said.
He said the plan for redeveloping the Gordon site was conceived a couple of years back when looking at further expansion plans for the group.
Meanwhile, the warehouse previously at Gordon has been relocated to Gerehu, Port Moresby.
Mackellar said the new warehouse was located on a 16,000 square-metre facility in Gerehu.
“Consolidating our four other warehouse locations into our new Gerehu warehouse operation has provided enormous benefits and efficiencies for our business,” he said.
“Our Gerehu warehouse supplies product to all Bran Bell Homecentre locations throughout Papua New Guinea.”
