THE Mt Hagen Brian Bell Home Centre in Western Highlands opened its new building yesterday after 18 months of construction.
Brian Bell Group chairman Ian Clough said the new home centre, which has 1,700 square metres of retail space was the first stage of their redevelopment plan.
He said this was the first major development to Brian Bell’s Mt Hagen branch in 25 years.
Clough said stage two would see the old branch building demolished and a two-storey building with 3,500 square metres of retail space in its place.
The structure will be similar to the Gordon Home Centre in Port Moresby.
“We are bringing all those innovations, standards and product ranges to Mt Hagen so that people in the city can buy whatever they need without having to travel outside of the province,” Clough said.
He said with more than 1,200 team members across 16 locations nationwide, the Brian Bell Group was a part of the fabric of the Papua New Guinea community, and strove to provide the best range of quality products, services and support facilities.
“If you visit the new home centre, you will see a wider range of homeware, Manchester (linen) products and furniture which were not seen in the old store,” he said.
Clough said the company, which was established in 1958, had adjusted to the Covid-19 lockdowns and restriction last year but remained committed its customers and the country.
He said last year, the company started construction on the Mt Hagen Brian Bell Home Centre, opened the Gordon Home Centre and put up a residential apartment building in Port Moresby as well.
Clough said the company also reinvested in the community through the Sir Brian Bell Foundation.
“In Mt Hagen, we have been able to support the Mt Hagen provincial hospital and also the Kundiawa General Hospital in Chimbu,” he said.
Clough said all Brian Bell shops required customers to wear observe the Covid-19 protocols.
