BRIAN Bell Homecentres won the 2018 Ozone Day refrigeration technical skills challenge in Port Moresby at the weekend, retaining the top position it won last year.
The competition was organised by the Conservation and Environment Protection Authority (Cepa) with support from Paradise Foods Limited and the recently established PNG Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Association to mark the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer.
Participants included Brian Bell Homecentres, South Pacific Air Conditioning Limited (SPAC), Daikin Ltd, ABCO PNG Ltd, Port Moresby Technical College and Don Bosco Technical Institute in Port Moresby.
The Brian Bell Homecentres team won K1000 in cash. SPAC came second and received K800, with Daikin Ltd in third place, receiving K600.
Veari Kula, the manager for the industries and utilities regulation division at Cepa said the ozone layer protected the Earth from the harmful rays of the sun, and refrigerants were chemicals which destroyed the ozone.
Kula said they were encouraging industries who dealt with refrigerants to use them in compliance with best industrial practices.
