THE Buso bridge in Bukawa, Morobe, will be re-built as soon as  funds were made available, Nawaeb MP Gisuwat Siniwin said.

Siniwin also promised to have the road from Bukawa to Finschhafen built during his term as MP.

He gave the undertaking in Lae while delivering exercise books and stationery for 117 schools in Nawaeb.

The Buso bridge at Wagang village is more than an hour’s drive from Lae.

It was destroyed in 1994 and people were forced to cross the sometimes treacherous river to reach their villages.

Four-wheel-drive vehicles could cross during the dry season.

Guides used rubber tubes from old truck tyres to ferry people and cargo across.

Siniwin said K7.5 million is needed for the project.

People in the Bukawa area are cocoa growers and farmers but production has fallen because they could not access the markets.

He said the road from Bukawa to Finschhafen would help people in these areas who grew the best organic coffee in the country.

Siniwin has also issued a stern warning to public servants in his electorate to improve their performance.

“How do you feel when you are driving around and getting paid for doing nothing?” Siniwin asked.

He also said MPs were not loaded with cash to distribute to anyone who needed it.
