Yama commends PM
Madang Governor Peter Yama has commended Prime Minister Peter O’Neill for taking on the Pacific Marine Industrial Zone (PMIZ) project in Madang. “This project had been going on for the last 15 years,” he said. Yama said the first thing was to get the structure in place and Deputy Prime Minister Charles Abel would get the submission to cabinet for the immediate release of PMIZ to the provincial government.

MP appreciates performance
Moresby North East MP John Kaupa has appreciated the high performance results in examinations achieved by most secondary schools in the electorate. He also commended the hardworking teachers and administration that had all put in their combined effort to ensure students achieve positive results last year.

Kapili thanks Sir Peter
Lagaip-Porgera MP Tomait Kapili has thanked Enga Governor Sir Peter Ipatas for selecting Pili Kambi to set up the 13.6megawatt hydro project. “I will stand behind my governor to achieve the K100 million project so that people can access continuous power supply like never before,” Kapili said.

Attitude an obstacle
MT Hagen will change and expand only when people change their attitude, says chairman of the Wamp Nga Group of Companies Wai Rapa. He said that attitude problem was the biggest silent obstacle that is stopping the city from expanding. Mt Hagen also has law and order issues, he said.

Call for release of funding
THE general secretary of the Country Party of Papua New Guinea, Wilson Thompson, has urged the Government to release funding appropriated through the 2019 Budget for the operation of the cancer facilities in the country. Wilson also wants the Government to fund the establishment of the facility in Lae, Port Moresby and other provinces while the department considers training of specialist doctors on cancer.

Pato thanks Australia
Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Rimbink Pato has thanked the Australian government for its support towards hosting Apec last year. Pato said Australia offered its assistance even before PNG asked.

School looks ahead
Kokopo Primary School, in Kokopo, East New Britain, is looking forward to the school year with higher expectations of teachers, performances and commitment. Head teacher Wesley Vatnabar said the school administration and parents were putting pressure on teachers to work harder.

Hela in recovery mode
HELA is now in recovery mode after the earthquake disaster last year and lawlessness in the province over the past years, Governor Philip Undialu says. Undialu was speaking on Sunday following the resumption of Air Niugini flights to Tari Airport, the capital of Hela, after almost eight months. Air Niugini suspended flights to Tari on June 14 last year when an Air Niugini Dash 8 plane was burnt at Mendi Airport, in Southern Highlands, by supporters of candidates who contested the Southern Highlands provincial seat. “With the restoration of law and order, we are experiencing other public services returning,” the governor said.
