Overseas study opportunity
MORE than 400 students were at the Madang government conference centre last week to be interviewed on study opportunities in the Philippines. Madang Governor Peter Yama initiated the scholarship programme to send Madang students.

Highway upgrade in NIP
THE New Ireland government is upgrading the Lanzarote Highway in the Matalai local level government of Namatanai. It is one of several major infrastructure projects initiated by Governor Sir Julius Chan.

Students get tablets
THE 10 Flexible Open and Distance Education centres in Western will no longer need to get books and teaching materials from Port Moresby after the Ok Tedi Development Foundation provided students tablets containing all the course materials in soft copy and a dictionary.

MPs kept country in-order
NEW Ireland Governor Sir Julius Chan, Western Governor Paias Wingti, Madang Governor Peter Yama, National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop and Gulf Governor Chris Haiveta asked Peter O’Neill to resign as prime minister. Sir Julius said: “If we didn’t ask O’Neill to resign, the political stalemate may have prolonged, leaving the country in disarray.”

Kool accepts court decision
Former Chimbu Governor Noah Kool has accepted the National Court decision confirming Michael Dua as his successor. “I have accepted the National Court decision in relation to my petition.”

Call to improve services
LAE City Lord Mayor Koim Trilue Leahy is appealing to Prime Minister James Marape to restore the confidence of the people by improving service delivery. He said Lae was generating a significant percentage of revenue to the national purse.

New record system needed
Paper-based record-keeping for patients creates problems, says Alotau Hospital nursing officer/ophthalmic clinician Lemasi Kissai. She told the National Ophthalmic Conference in Port Moresby that the system should be changed.

Vaccinations to start in WHP
WESTERN Highlands will launch its polio, measles and rubella immunisation programme on June 11 for children under five years. Health workers will vaccinate and immunise children from June 11-30.

Women’s group get funding
The Middle Fly Women Association in Western received over K200 000 of loan funding from the National Development Bank (NDB) recently. Middle Fly Women’s Association President Charlote Mathews thanked the Ok Tedi Development Foundation business development team and NDB for making it possible for the women to access these loans. A total of 67 women applied for loan from NDB.

Leader says peace important
LLG president of Ialibu Rural in Ialibu Pangia, Southern Highlands Robert Dopo has called on Hela and Southern Highlanders to practice what their national leaders say. Dopo said people should follow the law and allow peace to prevail in the communities as government services work much better when there was peace.
